Située entre Baie-Mahault et Petit-Bourg, en Basse-Terre, la Grande Rivière Salée est un vaste réseau de canaux, de lagunes et de petits îlets, bordé par une dense forêt de mangrove. Elle fait partie intégrante du Parc National de la Guadeloupe et est classée Réserve Naturelle Nationale depuis 1994.

🌱 Un trésor écologique de la Guadeloupe

La mangrove est un écosystème riche et fragile, essentiel pour la biodiversité et la protection du littoral. On y trouve trois types principaux de palétuviers :

Le palétuvier rouge (Rhizophora mangle), reconnaissable à ses racines-échasses qui plongent dans l’eau
Le palétuvier noir (Avicennia germinans), qui pousse en zone plus salée
Le palétuvier blanc (Laguncularia racemosa)

Ces arbres sont adaptés à l’eau saumâtre et abritent une faune variée : crabes (comme les célèbres « touloulous »), huîtres de mangrove, poissons, oiseaux (hérons, aigrettes, martins-pêcheurs), et parfois même des lamantins, espèces protégées.
